This morning my mother told me that she read an article that tells you the top 5 foods that are the best for you. It says that if you ONLY ate these 5 foods, it would be enough for you, because they’re just that good.
My mom was so happy to share these with me, not only because everyone should know this, but because these 5 foods are apart of my every day diet.. YAY, that means I’m doing something right! And no, there is no meat or animal by-products on this list, MEANING THAT when people say vegans don’t get enough protein or vitamins, they don’t know what they are talking about. By the looks of this list, vegans are doin it just right.
#5. Flax Seeds. They are calling this little seed the new power plant. They reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke and diabetes. They contain omega 3 essential fatty acids that are good for your heart, Lignans, which are antioxidants, and tons of fiber. These seeds have been around for centuries, but people are just discovering the huge benefits now. You can also use them in almost anything, and even use flaxseed egg as a supplement for regular eggs.
#4. Beans and Chickpeas. Legumes are made up of high-quality carbohydrates that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They tend to be notably high in soluble fiber, folate, magnesium, iron, and potassium. These heart-healthy nutrients help lower cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure, and they can reduce your risk of coronary artery disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
#3. Blueberries. Not only are these beautiful blue berries light and delicious, but they contain antioxidants, which work to neutralize free radicals linked to the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other age-related conditions. They boost brain health, and contain vitamin C.
#2. Broccoli. Personally, Broccoli has been my favourite vegetable since i was little. It’s just so delicious, I’m not quite sure how people can say they hate it. Broccoli is proven to prevent cancer, reduce cholesterol, reduce allergic reactions and inflammation, helps your bones, and is a great antioxidant.
#1. No surprise here, the best food you can eat is SPINACH! It is nutrient dense, meaning it’s low in calories, but it’s so high in vitamins. Spinach contains vitamin K, vitamin A, magnesium, folate, manganese, iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B2, potassium, and vitamin B6. It’s a very good source of protein, phosphorus, vitamin E, zinc, dietary fiber, and copper. Plus, it’s a good source of selenium, niacin, and omega-3 fatty acids. If that’s not the greatest thing you’ve ever read about food, than i don’t know what is. And the best part about spinach is, you can use it in so much, whether it be your salads, smoothies, wraps, sandwiches, pasta, pizza, baked goods, and many more. Say it with me, i LOVE spinach!
